ON 30TH JANUARY Carpenters Workshop Gallery opened the first ever solo show of work by the young French artist Martin Laforêt. The gallery spotted his work in 2015, the year he graduated from the Design Academy Eindhoven, and has been working with him on this collection for two years.

The work is both intriguing to look at and conceptually rigorous. Laforêt constructs the pieces from wood, concrete, bronze and, in one instance, rubber in each case marrying the mould used to create the work with the cast, which forms the other half. The poetic gallery text suggests the intimacy of these relationships: “Mould and cast were one, and gathered again, each is the trace of the other.”
