Daniella Ohad
The design historian starts her spring lecture programme of 'Collecting Design: History, Collections, Highlights'.
Center for Architecture, New York
18th February – 11th May 2020
DANIELLA OHAD OPENS her fourteenth season of talks about collectible design on Tuesday 18th February in New York’s Center of Architecture. Ohad, who earned her doctorate at Bard Graduate Center, lectures and publishes widely on design history, theory and the decorative arts, besides writing a popular blog.
This programme, now in its seventh year, has become something of a personal mission. Ohad says: “My ambition is to educate architects and interior designers about design, to elevate taste and understanding.”
Each season of ten talks takes its cue from current exhibitions, or issues live in the media. Sarah Medford, a contributing editor to the Wall Street Journal, will talk about the scandal surrounding fakes of the iconic chairs Swiss designer Pierre Jeanneret designed for his cousin, Le Corbusier’s, modernist buildings at Chandigarh, India.
Evan Snyderman of R & Company will talk about how the works of Wendell Castle have been collected, in relation to an exhibition of Castle’s early work currently running at the New York gallery. Detroit-based designer Chris Schank, represented by Friedman Benda, and Irish designer Carol Egan, shown by Maison Gerard, discuss their work, while Ohad herself will report on developments in Japanese contemporary design. Ohad says, “A lot of what is said in my class is raw and original.”
